It's one thing to be planted with all fours on
terra firma chasing squirrels to your heart's content. It's quite another thing to be hanging from a steel cable suspended over a mountain gorge. After letting Kate run around on top of Hidden Peak, we walked down the south side into Mineral Basin and then back through the ski tunnel (the only one in North America) and into Peruvian Gulch. Once we got on the chairlift to head back down the mountain, Kate was too afraid to get out and sit on the chair by herself.
A short time later, Kate crawled out of the pack when the lift stopped for a while. She eventually got up the courage to explore her surroundings, always being careful to keep all four feet wrapped around the safety bar.
Janene thought that this would be a perfect time to impress upon Kate just what the consequences would be if she jumped up on Janene's nylons again. Thoughtful parents should always be on the lookout for those special teaching moments. You never know when they will affect a child's life for the better. ( or worse)
Back at The Lodge, Kate hurried off to bed like a good little
doggie should. She seemed excited to be back in familiar territory and was soon fast asleep in her own bed. We were glad that we had reserved a room with two queen beds.
